**Ladybugs** (family Coccinellidae), also known as Ladybird Beetles or Lady Beetles, are one of the most widely recognized and **beneficial insect families** globally. They are famous for their brightly colored, dome-shaped bodies, typically red or orange with black spots. They are highly valued in agriculture and gardening because both the adults and the larvae are voracious predators of soft-bodied plant pests, especially **aphids** and scale insects. Their primary role is as a natural, non-chemical pest control agent.

Taxonomy and Classification

Ladybugs belong to the order Coleoptera (beetles), family Coccinellidae. They undergo complete metamorphosis. While most species are carnivorous, feeding on pests, a few (like the Mexican bean beetle) are herbivorous and considered pests. They are characterized by their hemispherical shape and their ability to secrete a foul-tasting, yellowish substance (reflex bleeding) as a defense mechanism when threatened.

Physical Description

Adult Ladybugs are small, 1/16 to 3/8 inch long.

The conflict profile is entirely beneficial, with a minor exception.
